Activision announced today the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops would include a zombie mode similar to the one included in Call of Duty: World at War. "Zombies have been such a hit with our community that we were committed to bringing brand new zombie experiences to Call of Duty: Black Ops," said Treyarch Studio Head, Mark Lamia in the announcement. "We've taken extra special care to retain the essential ingredients of our Zombie game, and have also crafted a nice surprise for the fans." Zombies Mode was available in 2008's also Treyarch-developed World at War as an unlockable reward for completing the game's campaign. The undead-Nazi-hunting mode was also spun off into a best-selling iPhone app, Call of Duty: World at War Zombies in 2009. A new map for the iPhone app will be available for download tomorrow, Activision announced today. Today's announcement follows a long-running obsession with the undead in the game industry that extends from Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Resident Evil to Left 4 Dead and this week's release of Dead Rising 2. Even Rockstar San Diego's hit Red Dead Redemption recently announced “Undead Nightmare” DLC, due out this fall, delivering "a brand new single-player story that tasks John Marston with curing a zombie outbreak."
