Following Capcom’s announcement yesterday, that over 1 million units of PSP title Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G had been shipped in just six days, the latest addition to the PSP’s most successful franchise in Japan has also topped the console sales charts. Covering just the first two days of the game’s release, the title still accounted for around 880,000 unit sales. Despite being only a standalone expansion, the release exceeded the sales of the last game, itself the fastest selling third party portable game ever in Japan, by almost 175,000 units. The performance of the game overshadowed a strong second week for Pokemon Ranger: Batonnage on the Nintendo DS at number two, with 106,000 unit sales. Meanwhile, Namco Bandai’s Mobile Suit Gundam 00 on the Nintendo DS debuted in third place with 49,000 unit sales. Also of note was the PSP version of anime tie-in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion - Lost Colors outselling the PlayStation 2 version, at 34,000 units to 30,000. This may be seen as evidence of a gradual increase in the number of successful PSP software titles, as PlayStation Portable hardware sales continue to be extremely strong in Japan.
