On December 2, 2006, the Art Institute of Vancouver in Vancouver, British Columbia will host the first ARTmageddon Festival, a one-day event dedicated to showcasing the city's thriving game industry. In partnership with some of the foremost names in game design and development, ARTmageddon will fuse diverse events designed to educate the public about the business of gaming, inform potential students about educational opportunities at the Art Institute of Vancouver, and provide industry players with the chance to show their wares to a targeted audience. Throughout the day attendees will hear from influential players in the industry, have the chance to test out new games, and watch as gamers battle for cash prizes and merchandise in three game tournaments. Among the tournaments, events proposed include, "Education in Gaming," "The Gaming Landscape of BC," "The Game Development Team," "New Horizons: Future of Gaming," "Breaking In: Employment Opportunities in the Game Industry," and "Behind the Scenes: From Concept to Completion." For more information, interested parties can visit the Art Institute of Vancouver website.
