At Denny's it's Hashteroids, not Asteroids

Atari announced today that it has made a deal with the Denny's diner chain to release "remixed" versions of three classic games -- Asteroids, Breakout and Centipede -- through the Denny's mobile app.

Atari announced today that it has made a deal with the Denny's diner chain to release "remixed" versions of three classic Atari arcade games -- Asteroids, Breakout and Centipede -- through the Denny's mobile app. The deal is part of a promotional campaign for Denny's "Greatest Hits Remixed" menu and will see these venerable games modified to advertise the diner's "iconic dishes" with new in-game assets like "syrup bottle shooters" and "flying hash browns." Fittingly, the games have also been renamed Hashteroids, Take-Out and Centipup and feature new diner-themed narrative arcs -- Hashteroids asks players to lead the "SS Denny's Condiment Transport ship" to deliver 40 tons of in-game condiments to a needy planet, for example. “We are excited to be partnering with Denny’s on this partnership," stated Atari, Inc. CEO Fred Chesnais in a press release announcing the deal. "Transforming our classic and beloved games into a retro, remixed promotion will be a natural way to expose our brand to a new generation and resonate with our long-time fans in a fun and unique way." The deal is part of Atari's ongoing comeback plan, which involves rebranding itself as an "interactive entertainment production company" and splashing that brand across markets like social casino games, wearable devices and (evidently) American diner food in an effort to rebuild its business after filing for bankruptcy last year.
