After an announcement earlier in the week that RPG publisher Atlus (Persona) had been dissolved by parent company Index Holdings, Atlus U.S.A. president Shinichi Suzuki has made an official statement which reassures fans the company will still create and publish games in the future. The statement reads, "Recent news out of Japan that Index Holdings, the parent company of Atlus Co., Ltd. (and its wholly-owned private subsidiary Atlus U.S.A, Inc.), would be merging the Atlus brand into itself has created uncertainty as to the future of Atlus and its games." He added: "We want to assure our fans and affiliates that Atlus remains in operation and will continue, as always, to support our beloved community with the finest quality game experiences possible." "The Atlus-Index merger allows us to achieve greater synergy among the Index group companies and further strengthens the foundation of Atlus, both in Japan and here in the United States." Atlus was dissolved by Index Holdings in an effort to streamline its business focus to "profitable core areas," according to a company statement. The director on Atlus' newest 360/PS3 project Catherine, Katsura Hashino, referred to the merger on the official Catherine dev blog right after it was announced, saying that all teams will continue to work on their respective projects. The RPG company has been in business since April 1986 and is best known for its original Shin Megami Tensei series, as well as localizing and publishing titles from other Japanese developers, such as From Software's (Demon's Souls) and Sting (Riviera) in North America.
