Organizers from Australian gaming event group Dissecta have announced their latest regular meeting, named “GDC Dev Focus: Latest from the USA”, to provide a venue for local game industry professionals and enthusiasts to understand some of the key issues and trends raised at the recent Game Developers' Conference (GDC), held in San Jose in March. The non-GDC affiliated event is due to take place on April 18th at the Australian Games Innovation Centre in Melbourne. Speakers scheduled for the event include Brett Paterson, CEO and Lead Programmer at Firelight Technologies, Ben Hutchison, Lead Developer at Playscape Games, and Greg Hill, CEO of Soundwave Concepts. Brett, who spoke at GDC's 2-day Audio Bootcamp tutorial class, will cover GDC from a overview perspective while Ben, a mobile development specialist, will focus on GDC Mobile. Brett and Greg will also demonstrate Firelight Technologies' FMOD software running through aspects of the latest version of FMOD as demonstrated at the recent GDC event. FMOD is an audio engine that supports 12 platforms including Xbox 360, PSP, and PC, and is used in Blizzard's World of Warcraft and in Crytek's FarCry. Further details of the Dissecta event, which does include an entry fee, can be found at the organization’s official website.
