The Cañada College 3D Animation and Video Game Art Program is one of four community college technical programs statewide selected as a site for the CalWomenTech Project. The project is sponsored by the National Institute of Women in Trades, Technology & Science and funded by $2 million from the National Science Foundation. The project will provide Cañada College free, intensive training and assistance on recruiting and retaining women students into the 3D Animation and Video Game Art Program over the next four years. This includes a two-day WomenTech training where the school will develop individualized recruitment and retention plans. Cañada will also receive customized recruitment materials, including flyers, posters and a WomenTech section for its website, as well as on-site training and consulting. The Cañada College 3D Animation and Video Game Art Program, developed in January 2006, is the first of its kind in the Bay Area offered by a community college. It provides students a low-cost alternative to earning an education that can help them begin work in the video game industry or transfer to a four-year university to continue their studies. It is taught in a state-of-the-art studio where students learn on the latest software. The first classes were offered in the fall of 2006. Students work towards a certificate in 3D Animation and Video Game Art. More information about the program is available at the Cañada College website.
