Representatives from Capcom's Japanese headquarters have released details of the company’s mid-term financial results for the period from April 1 to September 30, 2004. During this time the company reported net sales of ¥28,537 million ($275.3m), up 27.1 percent from the same period last year. Operating income was also up by 3.6 percent to ¥1,778 million ($17.1m), with ordinary income rising by 5.4 percent to ¥1,486 million ($14.3m). Net sales for the games division alone were ¥17,387 million ($167.7m), up 29.7% from 2003, although operating income was down to ¥321 million ($3.0m). For the full year the company predicts net sales of ¥65,500 million ($631.9m), with an ordinary income of ¥6,800 million ($65.6m) and net profits of ¥321 million ($3.0m). The company reported strong domestic sales of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, which it has licensed from Take-Two/Rockstar for Japanese release, and the Mega Man series, with disappointing sales of Resident Evil: Outbreak – File #2 in Japan being offset by an allegedly positive response to the first title in the U.S. In addition, somewhat disappointing U.S. sales for Onimusha 3 were mentioned, although Mega Man Anniversary Collection apparently exceeded expectations in the States. Lifetime sales figures were also given for many of the company’s key franchises, spanning from the company’s earliest arcade and NES days. The total number of titles released in each series were also stated, showing the company’s well renowned taste for sequels - with 50 separate Street Fighter releases and an astonishing 87 Mega Man titles: 1942 series: 1,200,000 units (3 titles) Ghosts 'n Goblins series: 4,100,000 units (13 titles) Commando series: 1,100,000 units (2 titles) Mega Man series: 21,400,000 units (87 titles) Disney series: 1,300,000 units (33 titles) Final Fight series: 3,100,000 units (8 titles) Onimusha series: 6,000,000 units (9 titles) Devil May Cry series: 4,500,000 units (3 titles) Street Fighter series: 23,400,000 units (50 titles) Breath of Fire series: 2,900,000 units (13 titles) Resident Evil series: 24,700,000 units (36 titles) Dino Crisis series: 4,300,000 (10 titles)
