Capcom’s announced that its recently released Xbox 360 exclusive title Dead Rising has shipped more than 500,000 units in North America following its launch on August 8, making it the fastest selling Japanese-developed next-generation title to date. The company noted that in preparation for the console hardware transition, Capcom began concentrating in 2005 on developing titles for foreign markets while seeking to improve its marketing, sales and business operations functions in North America. Dead Rising is currently scheduled to ship on September 8 in Europe and on September 28 in Japan. Dead Rising is rated M by the ESRB in North America for mature themes and what the organization calls “intense violence”, and has also proved popular on rental charts such as that of predominant U.S. games-by-mail firm GameFly, further showcasing the game's popularity, despite a quirky save system that has been criticized by some reviewers. “Response to Dead Rising from the trade, press and consumers has been tremendous,” said Charles Bellfield, vice president, marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “The success of the game is a result of Capcom's recognition of Xbox 360 system's possibilities and starting development early on in order to deliver such a high-quality game.”
