The usually all-too-predictable UK video game charts have seen some unexpected movement this week, despite a lack of any significant new releases. After falling just short of becoming the fastest selling PC title of all time in the UK last week World of WarCraft expansion The Burning Crusade has fallen four places to number five, with Capcom’s Xbox 360 exclusive Lost Planet reclaiming its place at the top of the charts. Lost Planet has now outsold Dead Rising, Capcom’s previous number one selling Xbox 360 exclusive, by twenty percent in its first three weeks of launch. There was also good news for Nintendo, with WarioWare continuing to sell well on the Wii and Wii Play rising up the charts at number four, following improved stock conditions for both software and hardware. Nintendo recorded a total of eight games in the all-formats top forty this week - more than any other company including Electronic Arts. This is the latest evidence of a sharp turnaround in Nintendo’s fortunes in the UK since the launch of the Nintendo DS, with the company currently enjoying arguably its best ever results in terms of sales and market perception. There were no new releases in the top forty, but 42 All-Time Classics (aka Clubhouse Games) on the Nintendo DS did re-enter the charts at number thirty-three, with new releases Star Fox Command and Actionloop (aka Magnetica), as well as PSP exclusive movie tie-in Rocky Balboa, falling to chart in the all format lists.
