The latest 'Blogged Out', Jim Rossignol's news report that looks at the world of developer blogging, looks at the PvP conflicts within several mainstream MMORPGs, according to Terra Nova author Nate Combs. In this extract from the column, Rossignol discusses Combs' view of PvP: “One of my favourite (and most dispersed) online conversations has to be to the ongoing discussions about the status of PvP in MMOs, which regularly take place across the blogosphere... Combs goes on to argue that we should think of PvP has analogous to sports, and the participants as aspiring to something akin to the ‘honourable warrior’ hierarchies of ancient cultures. Could systems of honour and sportsmanship provide a way for thinking about what goes on the conflicts of MMOs?” You can now read the full Gamasutra column on the subject, including plenty more from Rossignol on the topic of PvP conflicts within several popular MMOs (no registration required, please feel free to link to this feature from external websites).
