Electronic Arts announced that it will publish Crytek's first-person shooter Crysis 2, the first title to be built on the multiplatform CryEngine 3 technology, for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Crytek CEO and president Cevat Yerli described the game's development as "a major stepping stone" for the company, as Crysis 2 is the first title developed under the studio's multiplatform CryEngine 3 technology, which debuted last March. The first Crysis, released exclusively for PCs in November 2007, sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide as of mid-2008. Crytek then shipped Crysis Warhead, a follow-up with a storyline running alongside the original game's, also only for PC, last November. Electronic Arts has yet to announce details on Crysis 2's story or its expected release date. Media for the sequel is also forthcoming. "Nothing speaks more to the success of the EA Partners program than when a studio the caliber of Crytek continues to work with us," says EA Partners general manager and SVP David DeMartini. He continues, "Crytek is already one of the elite PC development studios in the world and we are excited to have the opportunity to partner with them in bringing their award-winning technology and gameplay to more platforms and a wider audience with Crysis 2."
