The Department of Defense, which is part of the larger U.S. military system that has recently commissioned games based on the Army and centered around the Navy, has now established the Department of Defense Games Developers' Community, to unite all military-related game projects under one roof. Developer working on projects qualifying for membership in the community include not just the aforementioned titles designed as recruiting tools, but also games such as Pandemic's Full Spectrum Warrior that the military uses to train soldiers. The umbrella further includes games that use input from military consults for extra realism, such as SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals or Air Force Delta Storm. The community website offers a full list of games in the developer community, which includes a few fascinating entries -- apparently, StarCraft is in use in the US Air Force in some capacity, and the U.S. Marine Corps uses Soldier of Fortune at its Infantry Cognitive Skills Labs. There is also information about upcoming community-related events and relevant articles and research, as well as a news feed for related articles from media across the web.
