Konami has announced the return of its cult survival horror franchise with Silent Hill 5 via a mysterious teaser trailer at E3, heralding the debut of the series' first next-gen installment. According to Konami, the game will follow recently returned war veteran Alex Shepherd as he investigates his brother Joshua's mysterious disappearance. His travels will lead him through the small, insular community of Shepherd’s Glen and through the haunted, empty streets of Silent Hill. Konami says the game will feature "an enhanced combat system" and puzzles that rely on environmental cues, against the backdrop of its foundational atmospheric elements. Composer Akira Yamaoka, known for his work on the previous four Silent Hill game music, also returns to create an original soundtrack for the fifth installment. Little else has yet been revealed, but Konami has said that the game is slated for release in 2008 on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
