Electronic Arts has dropped North American recommended retail prices prices on a number of its recent releases, in a self-avowed effort to bolster sales before the holiday season gets fully underway, partly due to the softness of a game market that's nearing the end of the hardware cycle. Most of the affected EA titles have been lowered from their original price point of $49.99 to $39.99, though some have gone as low as $29.99. The full list of games whose suggested retail price has been officially lowered to $39.99 includes Burnout Revenge, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, SSX On Tour, NBA Live 06, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, NASCAR 06: Total Team Control, Need for Speed Underground Rivals, and The Sims 2: Nightlife. Games now selling for $29.99 are Marvel Nemesis and SSX On Tour, both released within the last month. No PSP games were affected by the price drop, save for the older Need for Speed game. EA has also not applied the price drop to its upcoming Xbox 360 games, all of which will still retail for $59.99. "At EA, we make pricing decisions on a title-by-title, market-by-market basis," said spokesman Jeff Brown to Reuters. "As we've said in our quarterly reports, this point in the console transition is historically marked by softness in pricing."
