According to a new statement from Japanese firm Enterbrain, Nintendo's Wii has sold 1.95 million units in the territory since its December 2006 launch, with Sony's PlayStation 3, which launched several weeks earlier, selling through 812,000 units. Enterbrain, which publishes Famitsu magazine and operates a separate, more privately-held chart from that of alternative Japanese game chart source Media Create, released the information to Bloomberg News in a faxed statement. The data was gathered through March 25th, 2007. Though further information on weekly specifics is not available for the Enterbrain charts, the most recent Media Create data backs up a trend that is seeing the Wii further pulling away from the PlayStation 3 in the next-gen hardware stakes for the territory. Those latest charts saw the Wii selling 75,571 units in the latest week, whereas the PlayStation 3 sold through 20,459 units in that same period, continuing an outpacing trend that has continued in recent weeks. Microsoft's Xbox 360 hardware, not mentioned in the Bloomberg piece, is far behind the duo for the Japanese market, with 3,492 units sold in that week, and an overall installed base believed to be significantly under 500,000 units, despite a year's head start.
