Eyetronics has announced that it has provided 3D scanning for BioWare’s upcoming Xbox 360 title Mass Effect. The company, which specializes in high resolution scanning and animation-ready 3D models, scanned several dozen actors at its Southern California facility over a two year period. Mass Effect allows players to interact with any character in the game with “customized real-time conversations”, and the scanning performed by the company will allow for a “wide range of emotion”, according to Nick Tesi, vice president of operations for Eyetronics in the US. “Stunningly life-like characters are critical to the Mass Effect experience, and high-quality head scanning from Eyetronics was an essential part of making that happen,” notes the game’s project director, Casey Hudson. Eyetronics has also recently worked with SCEA and 2K sports to capture 1,400 Major League Baseball players The Show Major League Baseball 2K7 and is currently working with Midway on Stranglehold. The company will be at the Game Developers Conference from the 7th of March until the 9th, at booth 5414.
