In this latest 'Road To The IGF' interview, Joe Bourrie & Patrick Hackett, creators of innovative student game and 2006 IGF Innovation In Design finalist Rumble Box, discuss the circumstances behind the game's creation, some of the inspiration for the title, and the future of indie games. When asked to describe their title, the two designers, who have since graduated and work at Rainbow Studios in Arizona, explain it as follows: "Rumble Box is an action mayhem game inspired by beat-em-up classics such as Streets of Rage and arcade hits such as Robotron and Bomberman. It was developed over the course of fourteen months as our senior project. The idea was to challenge the notion that enemies in video games should disappear when defeated, and the game grew out of that." You can now read the full Gamasutra feature on the subject, including plenty of other information and a link to download the game (no registration required, please feel free to link to the article from external websites).
