G4, the North American all-video game TV channel which has been retooled lately to lessen its focus on gaming, has revealed its nominations for the best games of 2005. The award winners will be revealed on an episode of its regular gaming-oriented program X-Play, rather than a dedicated special. The nominations for Game of the Year are God of War from Sony Computer Entertainment America, Battlefield 2 from Electronic Arts, Guitar Hero from Harmonix and RedOctane, Resident Evil 4 from Capcom, and Shadow of the Colossus, from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. The awards also have a Best Original Game category for new IP, which includes God of War, Psychonauts, Guitar Hero, Nintendogs, and Shadow of the Colossus in its nominees. Other categories in the awards program, which will air on January 25th at 11:00 Eastern and Pacific time, are Best Strategy Game, Best Role-Playing Game, Best Fighting Game, Best Online Game, Best Racing Game, Best Action/Adventure Game, Best First-Person Shooter, Best Platformer, and Best Sports Game.
