Gamespy.net allows publishers and developers to offer online and multiplayer functionality in their games without the need to create and maintain back-end services themselves. Gamespy.net is a system of software, back-end servers, bandwidth and network operations personnel that keep games with online features up and running. This infrastructure has served as the backbone of Game Spy's multiplayer game services, Game Spy Arcade and Game Spy 3D, for the past five years, supporting over 8 million installations and 300 million uses of the Game Spy client software in that time. Since 1997, Game Spy servers have been in operation round-the-clock with 99.9% uptime for the core servers. Game Spy offers twelve Gamespy.net Toolkits, which developers may use independently or as an integrated suite.
