GameCamp! has announced the two winners of a full scholarship to the GameCamp! flagship summer camp for students interested in video game development careers. High school and middle school students from around the U.S. were invited to write an essay about "Why I want to work in the video game industry." A panel of game industry professionals, including Robert Garriott, CEO, NCsoft U.S.; Sheri Graner Ray, Sr. Game Designer, Sony Online Entertainment, and Mike McShaffry, Studio Head, BreakAway Games -- read and selected the winning essays. The national winner is Scott Almquist, 17, from El Dorado High School in Albuquerque, N.M. The regional winner is Kathryn Pendleton, 15, from the Duchesne Academy in Houston, Texas. Both students will receive all-expenses paid scholarships to the two-week GameCamp! program, including tuition, room and board, and educational materials for the intensive summer camp being held from July 10-24 at Texas State University, San Marcos, just south of Austin. Students at GameCamp! will participate in a project- and seminar-oriented curriculum taught by experienced game industry designers, artists, programmers and other developers.
