Programmer Henry Golding was working on his degree when he scored an internship at Eurocom, working on Dead Space: Extraction, and in GameCareerGuide's latest feature he shares the top tips he learned during that stint. Golding suggests starting with the fundamentals -- recommending reading seminal reference book Effective C++ by Scott Meyers -- and moving on from there: "Time spent streamlining your workflow is always time well spent. You would never see a craftsman with his (or her) tools lying all over the place; they will be organized, clean and within easy reach. It should be the same with your PC," says Golding, adding: "By becoming passionate about the tools you use, and trying to understand how to use them better, you become a better programmer." One of his most important tips is to be sure and ask for assistance when needed: "As a junior programmer, no one expects you to know everything. Make the effort to work things out for yourself, but don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Sometimes the act of explaining a problem to a colleague will be all you need to spot the solution. If you are friendly and approachable then no one will mind."
