This week's GameFly video game rental charts for North America, specifically relating to games rented via the games-by-mail service for the week ending August 15th, show popularity over multiple game formats. The annual sales juggernaut of Madden has hit both retailers and renters, as the 2006 edition storms to the top of the overall charts. More interesting than that nearly inevitable result is the continued tenacity of Destroy All Humans! at #2 and God of War at #3, both of which have surprising legs, given the number of other titles that have popped up to the top of the charts, only to fall back down again just as quickly. Madden NFL 2006 is also tops on the Xbox-specific charts, with Destroy All Humans! again at #2 and Conker: Live and Reloaded bringing up the rear at #3. On the PlayStation 2, the story is similar: Madden crushes all competition, God of War remains at second place, and Destroy All Humans! clocks in at third.. Even the normally off-kilter GameCube isn't immune to the Madden frenzy, as the annual footballer claims the #1 spot on those charts as well. Apart from that, Capcom's one-two zombie punch remains in vogue on Nintendo's platform, with Killer 7 at #2 and Resident Evil 4 at #3. The Madden of the preteen set, Dragon Ball, has done a similar number on the Game Boy Advance rental charts as Dragon Ball GT: Transformation powers up to #1. Pokémon Emerald hangs on at #2 until its fans have collected them all, and Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap returns to the top 3 at #3. The only real stagnation on the charts comes on the next-gen handhelds. Over on the DS, the same trio of Kirby: Canvas Curse, Meteos, and Nanostray reigns in that order, while Coded Arms continues to rule the PSP charts. Second place is Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition -- again -- and Dead to Rights Reckoning returns to #3 after a week's absence.
