GameFly Rental Chart Highlights: Week Ending October 31

This week's GameFly video game rental charts for North America, specifically relating to games rented via the games-by-mail service for the week ending October 31th, show popularity over multiple game formats. It was nice while it lasted, but Shadow of the Colossus has already been toppled by the new champion of the all-format rental charts: EA's Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, the console-specific entry in the Battlefield series. The series trumped even a new Grand Theft Auto game, with Liberty City Stories settling for #2 on the cross-platform list, just ahead of the PlayStation 2 release of Resident Evil 4 at #3. A trio of PS2 exclusives form the top three on that console's rental charts for the week. The PS2 rerelease of RE4 with extra content and slightly impaired visuals is the big news, debuting at #1. Another strong debut exclusive to the platform is Soul Calibur III, landing at #2, just ahead of last week's winner Shadow of the Colossus still hanging in there at #3. Meanwhile, multiplatform games continue to do well on the Xbox: Battlefield 2: Modern Combat is the winner on Microsoft's machine at #1, and Ultimate Spider-Man and X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse show surprising longevity at #2 and #3, respectively. Pokémon XD comes slinking back into the top three on the GameCube chart, though only at #3. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance's star still blazes at #1, and #2 is still Mario Superstar Baseball -- it's a strange world when the GameCube chart shows the least surprise out of any of them. That said, the Game Boy Advance chart has finally quieted down, with no bizarre #3 selections to be seen this week. Instead, Pokémon Emerald remains dormant at #1, and hardcore-friendly Gunstar Super Heroes debuts at #2. Rounding out the list is Dragon Ball GT: Transformation at #3. On the Nintendo DS, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney gets his day in court by moving up to #1, ahead of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, which slips to #2 this week. #3 is Trauma Center: Under the Knife, completing a trifecta of third-party games, indicating the healthy state of the DS about a year after its launch. The PSP, too, is in good shape this week with Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories finally arriving on the platform at #1, followed by X-Men Legends II at #2 and Madden NFL 06 at #3.
