In honor of the App Store's 10 billionth app download, Apple has revealed lists of the all-time most popular paid and free apps on the iPhone and iPad, with games maintaining a strong presence across all lists. Doodle Jump is listed as the most popular paid iPhone and iPod Touch app of all time, leading a slate of nine games in the top ten. Those popular games include three separately listed versions of Tap Tap Revenge and Pocket God, which is actually listed in the entertainment category. Other high-ranking paid iPhone and iPod Touch apps from the game category include Angry Birds in 4th place, Bejeweled 2 in 6th, Traffic Rush in 7th and Flight Control in 10th. On the iPad, games only represent four of the top ten paid apps, with Stick Wars ranking the highest in 2nd place, followed by Backbreaker Football in 4th. The popularity of paid games extends farther down the top download lists, with 49 of the top 100 paid iPhone and iPod Touch apps and 36 of the top 100 paid iPad apps coming from the games category. Free games didn't rank quite as well in the list of all time top free app downloads. Titles from the game category represent only one of the top 10 free iPhone and iPod Touch apps (Paper Toss) and one of the top 10 free iPad Apps (Solitaire). However, Apple's lists are ranked by total downloads, not total revenue from in-app purchases, a category in which free game apps would likely perform much better. Full, all-time popularity rankings for every available app in Apple's store are currently viewable in iTunes.
