Games for Health Hosts Game Design & Development Competition

Representatives from the research collective The Games for Health Project have announced a new game design and prototype development competition, which will be backed by assistance from from Games for Health Project co-founder Ben Sawyer.

Representatives from the research collective The Games for Health Project have announced a new game design and prototype development competition, which runs from October 19, 2006 until April 1, 2007. Winners will be announced on or before June 1, 2007. The competition is broken up into three individual competitions, two for storyboards and game treatments, and one grand prize awarded for the best working prototype game. Games for Health representatives will pick five finalists from those entries submitted, and announce one winner in each competition as the recipient of that event's prize. The individual competitions and prizes are broken down as follows: -- Student Storyboard & Treatment Competition ($5,000 prize) -- Organization Storyboard & Treatment Competition ($5,000 prize) -- Open Prototype/Health Game Competition ($20,000 prize) In addition, Games for Health Project co-founder Ben Sawyer will also be hosting a series of three conference calls taking place on October 26, November 9, and November 20 to help provide answers to questions, and provide basic advice on resources for competition entrants. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the nation's largest philanthropy dedicated to health and health care, is the lead competition sponsor. The competition is open to people over the age of 18, including independent and collegiate developers, casual gamers and organizations that are not commercial game publishers. Health and health care organizations, including schools of public health, health care non-profits and hospitals may also enter.
