For the latest feature for Gamasutra sister mobile game news site GamesOnDeck, we present an exclusive interview with Capcom Mobile president Midori Yuasa about the company's history, future plans for original mobile IP, and its choice to develop all titles for the North American market in-house. According to Yuasa, the acquisition of developer Cosmic Infinity has given Capcom the freedom to add "several new and original brands to the Capcom mobile library," adding, "Our ongoing strategy is to build upon these new brands as well as to develop additional mobile IP in the coming years." But, in this excerpt, she also notes that, in most cases, North American titles will be built from scratch, even when the same IP has been shrunk to mobile form in Japan, as it did recently with a version of Lost Planet: "Several of our earlier titles were ports of Japanese mobile games, or original titles developed by external developers. With that acquisition of Cosmic Infinity and the creation of our internal studio, we've mandated that all titles moving forward be created from the ground up. Again, this helps with deployment and backfilling handsets as our engineers have intimate knowledge of the code since they in essence wrote the core game." You can now read the full GamesOnDeck feature on the subject, with more from Yuasa on how to convert console IP to mobiles, and on the stateside success of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (no registration required, please feel free to link to this feature from external websites).
