Video game retailer GameStop reports that its pre-orders for Activision and Treyarch's upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops are outpacing its record CoD: Modern Warfare 2 reservations in 2009. "GameStop is tracking to all-time, record reservations on Call of Duty: Black Ops," says GameStop's Merchandising SVP Bob McKenzie, who didn't disclose the number of preorders. "We are ahead of where we were with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last year, which previously set the industry standard". As of last June, Modern Warfare 2, which was developed by Infinity Ward, had sold more than 20 million copies around the world -- it's currently the best-selling title in the UK and the second best-selling game in the U.S., right behind Nintendo's evergreen Wii Play with its Wii Remote pack-in. Black Ops won't release to stores until November 9th, but the reboot for its rival first-person shooter series, Electronic Arts' Medal of Honor, ships next week. Medal of Honor has set a pre-order record for the franchise, too, though Electronic Arts hasn't revealed specific figures for that title either. GameStop also announced a "Surprize Attack" sweepstakes and promotional campaign for pre-order customers. Gamers who reserve the Xbox 360/PS3/PC title can enter their receipt code on a special site, and they will be eligible to win over one million Black Ops-inspired prizes through November 9th.
