Today's round-up includes news on John Carmack's DoomRPG, as well as information on the first product from the ex-Blizzard folks at Flagship Studios. - An update to John Carmack's weblog, which has replaced his .plan file as a way of communicating his current thoughts and projects to the world, shows the id Software founder experimenting with mobile phone games. Intrigued by the technical challenges of the smaller platform, Carmack expounds at length about the positive and negative aspects of mobile game development he discovered while working on a project in collaboration with Fountainhead Entertainment. Said project has few details listed on the blog, but Carmack describes it as "DoomRPG – sort of Bard’s Tale meets Doom." - Flagship Studios, the development team founded by Diablo co-creator Bill Roper, has announced its debut game in the pages of U.S. print magazine PC Gamer. Hellgate: London will be a game in the Diablo mold; though the viewpoint is first-person, combat is still stats-based, and the game is more of an RPG. Hellgate is set in a post-apocalyptic London, with environments drawn from real-world locations. Namco will publish the game, which has no set release date as yet. - Also updated on Gamasutra today (free reg. req.): our latest Question Of The Week feature showcases responses on the most interesting lectures and roundtables at GDC this year, a letter to the editor comments on the recent 'Unionize Now?' piece, and there are newly advertised jobs from Sony Online, Visual Concepts/2K Sports, Red Storm Entertainment, and more.
