The organizers of the 2007 Game Developers Conference (run by the CMP Game Group, as is Gamasutra) have announced that the San Francisco premiere of the i am 8-bit group art exhibit will take place at this year's conference. First debuted in 2005 in Los Angeles' Gallery 1988, the i am 8-bit show invites over 100 illustrators, sculptors, and artists of all stripes each year to re-invent and re-imagine old-school gaming memories into original works to, as CMP puts it, shine "a spotlight on an era when games were dominated by characters flourishing with originality." Dozens of pieces of original art inspired by classic videogames of the 1980s will be on display during GDC, March 5-9, in the North Hall of the Moscone Convention Center, street level. The exhibition will serve as an exclusive preview of the show's third-annual engagement, which will have its official debut at Los Angeles' Gallery 1988 this April. Said GDC executive director Jamil Moledina, "When I first saw i am 8-bit, my immediate reaction was that we must bring it to GDC so that the game development community can share the experience. At their cores, both GDC and i am 8-bit are about games as an art form. Our attendees represent the present, GDC content looks to the future, while i am 8-bit is a celebration of the past; it's the perfect marriage." More information about i am 8-bit, including links to the show's first art-book published by Chronicle can be found at the exhibit's website.
