The deadline to apply for an IGDA-sponsored GDC 08 scholarship is Dec. 7. Twenty-five scholarships will be awarded to college students, providing them with a free pass to the Game Developers Conference, a mentor during the event, and more.
December 7 is the deadline to apply for a Game Developers Conference scholarship, granted each year by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA). The scholarship provides 25 college students with “main conference” passes to the 2008 Game Developers Conference. Additionally, scholarship recipients will be assigned to a mentor, an industry professional who will meet with them during the show to provide personal assistance and guidance. Other perks, such as a tour of a local game development studio, free breakfasts and lunches, and a tailored orientation session, are also included. Applicants must be full-time college students (or equivalent), at least 18 years old, and IGDA student members (IGDA student membership fees are $30 per year, and there is no application fee for the scholarship). The scholarship recipients will be announced mid January. The GDC, which will next be held February 18 through 22, 2008, in San Francisco, is the largest conference for video game professionals and has been an annual staple of the industry for more than 20 years.
