Spiral Graphics today released its Genetica seamless texture editor. Genetica is supplied with a library of pre-built seamless textures and effects, which are then composited together and modified to create varied effects, including adding shadows, grime, and so on. The effects are applied using a node-based structure that allows a great deal of control over the final texture, which can be rendered to almost any resolution texture file desired. Image formats supported are PNG, TIFF, BMP, and JPEG. Existing images can be imported, although Genetica has no provision for creating seamless images from imported non-seamless images. But imported seamless textures can be added to the library, allowing the user to continually expand the choice of materials available to work with.
