Ghost 3D, LLC announced that it will preview at SIGGRAPH 2005 a pre-release of its plugin product called ScanLab PCS, an arbitrary point-cloud and surface reconstruction engine specifically for 3ds max. ScanLab PCS will offer fast and flexible performance in point-cloud surfacing tools and mesh repair. ScanLab PCS is directed toward 3D modeling professionals and CAD designers working with point clouds, complex 3D surface geometry created with standard modeling tools, sampled digitized point sets, and 3D scanner range data. The point-surfacing engine also includes integrated point simplification and hole filling, and can be adjusted to suit different kinds of datasets. Parameters are uniquely adjustable to adapt and compensate for variations in spacing between points. This also makes the solution well-suited to resurfacing or repairing surfaces that were manually created or edited using standard modeling tools. Data can be regenerated at any time and at any point in the non-linear graphics pipeline. Ghost 3D will provide demonstrations in Immersion’s booth #2229 at the SIGGPRAPH 2005 exhibition, held August 2-4 in the Los Angeles Convention Center. Further announcements will be made in the near future addressing the ScanLab PCS features, support and upcoming release date. More information about Ghost 3D’s digitizing and modeling solutions can be found at its website.
