Film director Guillermo Del Toro has divulged a few more details about the game project he is reportedly developing for THQ. Speaking to MTV News, del Toro described his project as a game that's "horror... but it's a very different type of horror game. It's not survival horror. It's truly a strange, geeky mix. It's a Lovecraftian thing, let's leave it at that." Del Toro told MTV the project's massive scale would necessitate a three-year development schedule, with the game hitting store shelves in 2013 in the "best case scenario." The Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy director also mentioned another of his yet unsigned game pitches, called Sundown, which del Toro described as "eerily similar to Left 4 Dead, which I adore and am addicted to, and in our household is considered a family game." While THQ has not officially announced any formal relationship with del Toro, the director told MTV he hoped "everything will come together in the next few days and we can formally announce it and so forth." THQ, for their part, said in a statement to MTV that "Guillermo del Toro is one of many creative artists that we respect and would be interested in working with. However, at this time, we do not have any formal announcement to make." Del Toro's involvement in video game development was first reported by MTV News in July, with a subsequent LA Times report suggesting that THQ had partnered with the director. In the past, del Toro has suggested the game industry is poised for a major breakthrough into artistic and mainstream acceptability. "Today, we have very worthy people doing literary comics. I think the same thing will happen on the Internet-gaming side. In the next 10 years, there will be an earthshaking Citizen Kane of games," " he told Wired.
