Rock Band developer Harmonix and publisher MTV Games donated $50,000 to the Starlight Children’s Foundation, and gifted the charity organization with 650 Rock Band bundles for hospitals and for seriously ill children at Starlight's Great Escapes family events. Harmonix and MTV's partnership with Starlight will allow the video game companies to bring Starlight families to Rock Band tour events, provide bundles to families at Great Escapes family activities, offer bundles to pediatric patients at select Starlight hospital partners, and host Rock Band-themed Great Escapes events. Starlight created the Great Escapes programs to provide families with seriously ill children a change to spend recreational time together to "relax, regroup and return home with a renewed sense of strength and hope." The events include movie screenings, trips to the circus, ball games, harbor cruises, picnics, and more. At the Rock Band-themed Great Escapes events, Starlight children and family members will have a chance to meet the game's creators, preview new content, and more. For more than 25 years, the Starlight Children’s Foundation has been committed to helping seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities. The group provides regular Great Escapes in over 30 communities throughout the country. "We’re honored to work with Starlight, which has an amazing tradition of offering support to seriously ill children," says Harmonix Music System's CEO and co-founder Alex Rigopulos. "We hope that our contribution will give these deserving families a new avenue to spend time together and enjoy great music."
