After missing out on the top spot last week by the smallest of margins, Ubisoft’s critically panned movie tie-in TMNT has finally reached the top of the UK sales charts – after four weeks on sale. It has been a week of unusual triumph for Ubisoft, with the company’s new range of super budget PC re-releases also charting highly. Older titles such as Rayman 2, the original Brothers in Arms and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time all re-entered the top ten at their new £1 ($2) price point. In total, seven of the super budget titles were released, alongside heavy retailer promotions. The original Ghost Recon re-entered at number sixteen, Heroes of Might & Magic IV at number eighteen, Rainbow Six 3 Gold at number twenty-three and the original Splinter Cell at number twenty-five. Although the £1 price point is used by some specialist budget publishers, this is the first time that a major international publisher has launched its own range of titles with such a committed marketing push. Technically, the only genuine new entry in the top ten is Nintendo DS title Pokemon Ranger, which despite mixed reviews and a long delay from its U.S. release has performed extremely well for Nintendo – who have also seen Brain Training (aka Brain Age) re-enter the top ten for the third time. The only other new entry in the top forty is mini-expansion The Sims 2: Celebration Stuff, although the budget priced collection of items and clothing was actually released last week. The highest ranked PlayStation 3 exclusive game of the week is MotorStorm at number twenty-two, with a fall in Wii stock availability, after the busy Easter holidays, meaning that Wii Play is the highest ranked Wii exclusive at number twenty-one.
