Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
The Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA) released its annual "State of the Industry" report.
The report, available at http://www.idsa.com/releases/SOTI2001.pdf, gives an overview of current trends, looks back at the industry's history, and reviews the latest statistics and industry initiatives. Interesting statistics from the report include the following:
Sales of games (including videogames, computer games, and edutainment) in the United States during 2000 totaled $6.02 billion, slightly down from the $6.1 billion in 1999.
43% of game players are women, and the average age of these women is 29 years.
In 2000, more than 219 million computer games and videogames were sold -- almost two for every household in America.
