Capcom’s Resident Evil 5 has sold almost 400,000 units in its first week on sale in Japan, with the PlayStation 3 version hitting the number one spot with 312,000 unit sales. The Xbox 360 version also performed well at number three, with 79,000 units sold. Known in Japan as Biohazard, the first week totals for the latest entry in the long-running series are higher than for Resident Evil 4. However, they are significantly lower than the 1 million unit + debuts of Resident Evil 2 and 3 on the original PlayStation. The second fastest seller of the week is Sega’s new role-playing game 7th Dragon on the Nintendo DS. The game has been developed by Luminous Arc creators ImageEpoch and overseen by the director of Etrian Odyssey. New at number seven is Tecmo’s Aibou DS, a tie-in to a popular Japanese TV detective drama, with 43,000 units sold. Also new at number eight is Namco Bandai’s Super Robot Taisen Z Special Disc on PlayStation 2. Featuring new missions and units, the latest entry in the long running tactical role-playing series sold 28,000 units. The final new entry of the week, with 14,000 units sold, is a new iteration in Konami’s The Prince of Tennis sports simulation and anime tie-in series. The new Nintendo DS title focuses on female characters, with a version subtitled Boys, Be Gracious! due out later this month.
