Sales for the PSP and the PlayStation 3 received a dramatic boost this week, breaking a long streak of consistency in weekly Japanese hardware sales, tracking firm Media Create revealed Friday. The standard PSP hardware sold the most this week with 48,603 units, a notable change from the 28,747 units last week. Not all versions of the PSP hardware saw such an increase in sales. Sony’s PSP go sold only 777 units, a slight decline from last week’s 831 units. The PlayStation 3 more than doubled its sales from last week, selling 45,224 units versus last week’s 19,420. The increased sales for Sony’s platforms correlate with the release of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2 on PSP, and Sengoku Basara 3 on PS3, both debut titles that sold over 240,000 units last week. With all its hardware versions combined, Nintendo’s DS line took third place overall. Sales for the Wii and the Xbox 360 remained steady from last week, and the two platforms landed in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively. Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended August 1, 2010. (The second chart lumps together sales of all models in a given line of hardware.
