Japanese PSP Sales Quadruple With Release Of Latest Monster Hunter Title

PSP sales saw a notable sales boost in Japan after the release of Monster Hunter Freedom 3, with the platform selling four times more units than last week, reports tracking firm Media Create. For the week ended December 5, the standard PSP model sold 323,653 units, up from 75,689 units last week. The PSP go, however, did not experience such a sales increase and sold only 200 more units than the week before. The latest Monster Hunter title for the platform has sold over 2 million units in its first week and Capcom reports the title has set new debut sales records for the franchise. Following the PSP on the combined platforms chart was the Nintendo DS line, which saw a sales increase to 78,526 units, correlating with the release of Mario Vs. Donkey Kong: Miniland Mayhem, which took fourth on the software sales rankings. The PlayStation 3 experienced a sales decline with 27,000 fewer units sold than last week, causing the platform to slip into fourth place on the combined platforms chart.
