A healthy week of sales in Japan, 13 percent above the weekly average, has been dominated by Namco’s latest entry in the popular “Tales” role-playing series. Sales for Tales of Legendia totaled 242,000 units, only fractionally below the first week sales of the PlayStation 2 version of Tales of Symphonia. With sales of the PlayStation 2 version of Tales of Symphonia affected by the earlier release of the GameCube version these figures are still slightly disappointing for what could be considered Japan’s third most important role-playing series (after Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy), but they are still exceptionally higher than any other release. The second placed Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny: Generation of C.E. also sold over 100,000 units for a total of 118,343, proving once again the massive selling power of the Gundam franchise. The only other new entries were horse racing simulation Winning Post 7 with 28,214 units sold and what will be known as Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow in the West with 14,546 unit sales. In hardware sales, the Nintendo DS dipped below a 50 percent market share for the first time in several weeks with 57,313 units sold and a 48.04 percent market share. Next was the PlayStation 2 with a 22.77 percent market share and 27,161 units sold, followed by the PSP at 17.03 percent and 20,322 units. The Game Boy Advance enjoyed a 9.89 percent market share, followed by the GameCube at 2.17 percent and the Xbox at 0.11 percent.
