Doom 3 has taken its predicted place at the top of the U.S. PC sales charts for August, although a few days of sales in the last chart period have robbed it of new entry status. Indeed, its success seems somewhat hollow, considering the fact that there are no other new entries in the top twenty, and many of the titles in higher positions are a year or more old. Although Half-Life 2, reportedly delivered to Vivendi this week, will no doubt go on to even higher excesses of sales, there are few other titles on the horizon likely to rejuvenate the PC market as a whole.
