Luxology recently debuted modo 201 and the company's technology roadmap at a special event held at the Orpheum Theater during SIGGRAPH. Brad Peebler demonstrated of modo 201 (the new version fuses modeling, painting and rendering technologies into a 3d design environment) and future roadmap. For those who weren't able to attend the Luxology event, but would like to see the presentation, a video broadcast is now available at Luxology's site. Modo's features include advanced modeling technology to simplify and optimize complex meshes with true mesh instancing, integrated intuitive tool pipe painting tools, accelerated rendering technology for optimized global illumination, physically-based shading options for energy conservation, and fresnel effects among others, and workflow boosts from OpenGL acceleration and advanced light and shading. The company also revealed its 'road map' for the past, present, and future, which includes forthcoming Linux support for modo and a comprehensive modeling, rendering and animation pipeline as well as industry-specific configurations, meaning the company's products will eventually be a fully-fledged competitor with applications such as 3ds Max and Maya.
