PC strategy game publisher Matrix Games has announced that it has acquired the rights to publish the formerly award winning Talonsoft line of seminal PC wargames. According to the company, the agreement includes the rights to publish, update and modify a number of well-respected PC wargames, including the full Battleground series of games, which was inducted in its entirety into the Computer Gaming World Hall of Fame, the Campaign series, the Operational Art of War series, the Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich games as well as Age of Sail and sequels. Talonsoft itself was founded in 1995 by Jim Rose, producer of award-winning board and computer games for Avalon Hill, and John Davidson, the former Vice-President of MIS for Alexander & Alexander, and was acquired by Take-Two in 1999, before ceasing development of titles in 2002, as the PC wargame settled into a relative, though still important niche. David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said, “For wargamers, this is a legendary games line and many of us are still playing these titles. We are very excited to be able to publish these titles and are certain that wargamers around the world will be delighted at this news.”
