Organizers of the upcoming European game developer conference, GCDC, due to be held in Leipzig from August 21 to 23, announced that British developer Peter Molyneux will deliver a keynote speech at the event. Since co-founding Bullfrog Productions (Syndicate, Populous) in 1987, he has since gone on to create popular franchises such as Dungeon Keeper, Magic Carpet and Theme Park. His games have also spearheaded the creation of the “God-sim” genre for video games. Lionhead was later set up by Peter Molyneux in 1997, following his departure from Bullfrog following its acquisition by Electronic Arts. Lionhead's notable game titles to date have included Black & White and Fable, both major hits for a company which prided itself on complex, Molyneux-helmed simulation and RPG games. In April, Lionhead itself was acquired by Microsoft Game Studios following weeks of speculation and reorganization within the company. Recently, Molyneux was awarded an honorary doctorate at the University of Abertay (UK) and has been included in the Hall of Fame of the Academy of Interactive Art and Science. In addition to Molyneux, other speakers confirmed for GCDC include David Freeman (CEO of the Freeman Group), Don L. Daglow (President at Stormfront Studios Inc.), David Smith (Managing Director of Interactive Selection), Christopher Schmitz (Executive Producer of CDV Software), Sean Kauppinen (Director of Kohnke Communications), Graham Hopper (Senior Vice President Buena Games Worldwide) as well as Sven Liebich (Art Director at Phenomic Game Developer), Jeff Hilbert (President at Digital Development Management), and Bob Bates (chairman of the IGDA). More information concerning the event, including conference program and sponsorship opportunities, can be found on the official website.
