Though the same titles from Zynga and other major developers continue to dominate Facebook's most popular games list, many have suffered drops in their monthly active user counts.

[Every other week, we examine the most popular Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at the top titles and developers on the social network to see who's attracting or losing players.] Though we've seen hardly any movement from the app leaderboard for Facebook's most popular games in the past two weeks -- Zynga's titles continue to dominate the list and hold the top seven spots -- most of the high ranking games have lost anywhere from a few thousand to millions of monthly active players. Zynga's FarmVille, still at the top of the list, has only lost around 4,800 users in the past two weeks, but its total audience count of 62 million is much slimmer than its peak of 84 million users last March (before Facebook enacted changes to limit "app notification spam"). FrontierVille, which was gaining millions of new virtual pioneers each week and shot up to #2 in less than three months after its launch, has actually lost 2.2 million players in the last fourteen days, now down to a total of 34.6 million users. Texas HoldEm Poker at #3 seems to be the only winner in the top ten this time as it picked up 1.6 million card players for a total of 34.5 million, but Mafia Wars gave up 2.7 million mobsters (#4, 22.4 million total) and Cafe World shed 1.8 million users (#5, 20.7 million total). Virtual island management game Treasure Isle at #6 surrendered almost half a million users and has a total of 15.5 million players, while PetVille at #7 lost 718,000 virtual pet owners since early September and now has a total of 13.6 million users. Casual games portal Mindjolt, the first non-Zynga title on the chart, lost 439,000 users (#8, 13.6 million total), followed by Electronic Arts' Pet Society with 81,000 less players (#9, 13.4 million total), and PopCap's Bejeweled Blitz with 43,000 less users (#10, 12.5 million total). Despite these declining numbers in monthly active users for Facebook's popular titles, most of the games from both Zynga and other developers are enjoying increases in their daily active users.
