Yahoo Japan, Softbank and Sony Computer Entertainment announced that they will jointly offer a new broadband Internet service to PS2 users this Spring.
The service, provided via Yahoo! BB (launched in September by Yahoo and Softbank), will let owners of the PS2 engage in online auctions and access financial services, sports information and news. This is the second announcement this month concerning upcoming PS2 broadband service. Last week, Sony and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation said they would create an online game service for the PS2 which would let players download new game assets. Pricing has not been announced for either PS2 broadband service, and no mention has yet been made about making similiar services available outside of Japan.
