Virtools, a Dassault Systèmes company, announced that its technology has been chosen by Nightlight Studios for their next 3D game, Hurricane Hunters. Commissioned by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Hurricane Hunters will be released on PC and Mac. In the serious game, the player takes the role of a new recruit into the 403rd wing of the United States Air Force Reserve, the only unit in the world flying into hurricanes on a routine basis. As the player pilots various aircraft designed for aerial reconnaissance through hurricanes, he or she will rise through the ranks of Hurricane Hunters by successfully predicting and averting weather disasters in various U.S. cities. "Nightlight conducted an extensive evaluation of middleware technology solutions and concluded that Virtools was the clear choice for rapid, world-class video game development," said Nightlight Studios CEO Javier Garavito. "Developing with Virtools has been a company-wide awakening. The power made available to every branch of game development has amplified everyone's creativity and expedited behavioral innovations. This package emphatically answers the question as to how games should be made."
