The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
Nintendo’s domination of Japanese hardware sales has increased in proportion to its software sales success, with the DS selling over a quarter of a million units in a week, and Wii sales rising to over 100,000 units at the same time.
Market research firm Media Create has revealed data for weekly hardware sales in Japan, for the week ending April 29th, following details of the software top thirty yesterday. The results cover the first day of the Japanese Golden Week series of holidays, with overall sales rising in proportion to the strong software sales already reported. As usual, the Nintendo DS was the best selling console of the week, with unit sales up by well over 80,000 to 255,971. The still supply-constrained Wii saw more units being made available for the important retail period, with overall sales up by almost 25,000 to 102,522. PSP sales were also up, by over 4,000, to 33,860. The PlayStation 3 managed to reverse its declining sales figures of the past few weeks, with sales up nearly 2,000 to 12,791 – despite not a single PlayStation 3 game in the entire top fifty. PlayStation 2 sales slipped slightly to 12,584, putting the console in fifth place for the first time in three weeks. With two games in the top fifty, the Xbox 360 saw its hardware sales rise by over 800 units to 3,162. Sales for the Game Boy Advance family of consoles fell by over 200 units to 1,125 – with sales of the original version of the hardware registering as zero for the first time in the chart’s history. GameCube sales also fell, by 99 units, to 167.
