Nintendo has finished its internal food drive to donate to Northwest Harvest, a hunger relief agency based in Seattle, Washington, and the end result was over 18,655 pounds of food -- just over 9 tons -- given to the charity. The donated food will be distributed through 300 food banks and programs maintained by Northwest Harvest. The food was collected by competing teams within Nintendo, which strove to outdo one another in terms of total amount donated. The competition resulted in an average of 23 pounds of food donated by each one of Nintendo's employees, which number over 800. In addition to the food itself, employees raised $4,845 in donations, which Nintendo matched, bringing the total cash donation to Northwest Harvest to $9,690. "We actually doubled our donation goal this year, and more than doubled what we collected last year," said Nintendo VP of marketing and corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan. "With multiple natural disasters taxing food banks' resources nationwide and bringing their reserves to an all-time low, we're just happy that we can be a part of making someone's holidays a little brighter."
